Permits and registrations

Our regulatory team can support and manage the process of preparing for, submitting and finalizing applications for all of the key types of licences, permits and registrations that a new or expanding business may need for its operations in Myanmar.

MIC Permits and Endorsements: assisting with preparation and review of proposals to the Myanmar Investment Commission and State/Regional investment commissions for grants of investment Permits and Endorsements under Myanmar investment laws, including related applications for tax exemptions and land use rights. Our service also includes submitting proposals to the relevant investment commission and managing the processing of the application through to grant.

Registration of leases: preparing and submitting applications for registration of land leases, including leases to foreign-owned companies, by the Office of Registration of Deeds under Myanmar registration laws.

Wholesale and/or retail trading registrations: preparing, submitting and managing the processing of applications by wholly foreign-owned companies and foreign-local joint ventures to register for Ministry of Commerce permission to trade goods at the wholesale and/or retail level, including advising on the requirements for eligibility to register.

Special Economic Zones: assisting with applications to establish a business within the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, including investment permitting, company incorporation, site leasing and grants of tax incentives under the SEZ regulatory framework.

Central Bank of Myanmar approval for cross-border loans: preparing. submitting and liaising with the Central Bank of Myanmar regarding applications for the prior approval of loans to Myanmar resident borrowers from overseas lenders under foreign exchange management regulations.

Business licences from City Development Committees (CDCs, e.g. Yangon CDC, Mandalay CDC): preparing and submitting applications for business licences for factories and other industrial businesses from relevant CDCs – in particular the YCDC. Our service includes assisting with arranging or obtaining various background criteria, such as health and safety and fire safety recommendations, industrial inspections and consents from neighbouring occupants.

Importer/exporter registration: preparing and submitting an application for an importer/exporter registration with the Ministry of Commerce, including assisting with industry association and Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry membership applications required for importer/exporter registration eligibility.
